American History - One Vote by State
In South Dakota One Vote Does Count
I believe my 'one vote' lists; National, by State, and Other; to be the most comprehensive
listing on the internet.
Actually it is not just 1 vote but is 1 vote
over or shy of a majority, or 'super-majority'.
Any one voter of the victory tally had the power to sway the
victory to a tie or the opposition. One vote is victory among many when the many have the
majority. - Roger W Hancock.
I have included where one vote each over several precincts could have made a difference.
"A nation is only an
individual multiplied." - Mark Twain,
"The Turning-Point of My Life"
of one vote.
1 vote fails legislation considered by the Dakota Territory
legislature to give women the vote.
|| 1 vote per
district elected George McGovern senator from South Dakota.
|| 1 vote was the
difference in a recount favoring Hal Wick, after Democrat John
McIntyre led by 4 votes in the first count for a seat in the
Legislative District 12. Republican Hal Wick's one vote was
declared by the State Supreme Court to be invalid due to an
over-vote. After hearing arguments from both, the State
Legislature voted to seat Wick, 46 to 20.
1 vote won, then 1 vote lost, James
Townson's fourth term as mayor of Guntersville. On August 24 he
won the election by 1 vote, then after a Marshall County Circuit
Judge Tim Jolley disqualified 27 votes and allowed one
uncounted challenged vote, he lost by one vote.
