This Version That Version
When reading any version, pray first asking that the Holy Spirit reveal to you
that which the Lord would have you to understand. The Bible is just dead letters
without the Holy Spirit to show us what God meant. Without the Holy Spirit the
same verse can be twisted twelve ways of Sunday. I have found that a verse when
I was a younger in Christ meant one thing and as I grew in my relationship with
the Father, that same verse takes on more fuller and sometimes deeper meaning as
the Holy Spirit reveals only a little at a time as I'm able and mature enough to
except it. Do not worry too much if you fail to understand particular passages,
it simply may not be time for you to understand. Always keep your relationship
with Jesus, His Father, and the Holy Spirit open to Him. Seeking Him regardless
of circumstances in this world. Always knowing in your heart that He will NOT
forsake you.
Most pastors will have a preference. Some prefer the Authorized King James
Version for its popularity or traditional use.
Some without a thorough knowledge of the Greek and/or Hebrew believe the (NIV)
New International Version to be pretty good, with some exceptions throughout the
translation.
The Living Bible is not a translation but is a paraphrase. The Living New
Testament was done for for the easy read by the "translator's" children.
My Pastor of
Bible Chapel of Auburn, Dr. William Britt, prefers the (ASV) American
Standard Version. Through his studies he has found it to be more closer to the
original languages.
