- Radio talk show host and a
conservative leader, Alan Keyes, as he did in 1996, again runs
for and fails to obtain the Republican nomination for president.
- The Republican National
Convention is held in Philadelphia. George W. Bush
receives the nomination for president
with Dick Cheney as his running mate.
- Vice
President Al Gore as democratic presidential candidate
selects Connecticut Senator Joseph Lieberman as his running
mate. Lieberman becomes the first Jew on a major party’s
presidential ticket. |

than in the previous 20 Presidential Elections.
Only one of 2 1/2 eligible young
adults voted. 42 percent of 18 -24 years-old voted.

1972 and 2000 the national voting turn-out for the 18-24 year age group
declined by 10 percent.

Only four of five. 75 percent of those
over 25 years old voted.
