2000 Politics - Radio talk show host and a conservative leader, Alan Keyes, as he did in 1996, again runs for and fails to obtain the Republican nomination for president. 
- The Republican National Convention is held in Philadelphia.  George W. Bush receives the nomination for president with Dick Cheney as his running mate.
- Vice President  Al Gore as democratic presidential candidate selects Connecticut Senator Joseph Lieberman as his running mate. Lieberman becomes the first Jew on a major party’s presidential ticket.

2000 Vote - Voter turnout was the lowest than in the previous 20 Presidential Elections.
Only one of 2 1/2 eligible young adults voted.  42 percent of 18 -24 years-old voted.
- Between 1972 and 2000 the national voting turn-out for the 18-24 year age group declined by 10 percent.
- Only four of five. 75 percent of those over 25 years old voted. 
- 82% of the American electorate were White, 10% Black, and 7% Hispanic.
2001 Pres. George W. Bush begins his first term as the 43rd. American President.

- The War on Terror is a result of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the Trade Towers and the Pentagon.  The Taliban is ousted as leaders of Afghanistan.
2002 First NASA John Herrington is the first Native-American to be an astronaut.  He is from the Chickasaw Nation in Oklahoma
2003 War The Iraq War begins and deposes Saddam Hussein allowing free elections in 2005. 
2004 Pres. The 40th U.S. President (1981-1989), Ronald Reagan, (b.1911), died in California after a struggle with Alzheimer's disease.

- George W. Bush wins re-election as President receiving the greatest number of popular votes of any presidential candidate in U. S. History.  
2004 Politics George W. Bush secures the Republican nomination for re-election as President.
2004 First Bobby Jindal, Republican from Louisiana, becomes the first Indian-American elected to the U.S. Congress in 48 years. In 1956 Dalip Singh Saund won the California seat.
2005 Pres. George W. Bush begins his second term as the 43rd. American President.
2005 First - Condoleezza Rice, National Security Advisor, becomes Secretary of State to replace General Colin Powell. Rice is the first woman and first Black woman to hold the position.
- Alberto R. Gonzales is appointed and confirmed as the first Hispanic (Cubin-American) to be Attorney General.
